Gospel Reflection - In Which 50% Are You?

In 2009, around 28 people in the town of 4,000 people got married. In that same year, another 14 got divorced. That's a 50% divorce rate commonly observed in the USA today. 50%! Why?

There's a way of taking out the crossed fingers in any relationship. Let a third person come in -- God.
Photo: Crossed Fingers I by Katie Tegtmeyer
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps. Matthew 25:3-4 NAB

Marriage, as an institution where children can physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually attach themselves to is in the middle of the battle zone. The picture isn't pretty. Only six out of ten kids are growing up with both biological parents -- sorry, that was the figure in 2005. What do you think is the figure now?

Does society produce in growing numbers a mass of people who are macho (and let me apply that word to both men and women), scarred and invincible, fully capable of search-and-destroy missions and seemingly incapable of caring -- because caring isn't cool anymore?

How do we become part of the solution? Let us count the ways ...
